LATEST PACKRAT VIDEOS ARE UP
For the record, the reason we keep the rats until the end of the hunt (we carry them in the field in a Mal-Wart bag, and in the truck in an old 5 gallon bucket) is so that when local ranchers get out of their trucks with their mini-14's to see what the heck is going on in their pastures, we have tangible evidence that we're not after their BIG BUCKS. Once they find out what we are doing, they nod their heads in amazement (usually laughing under their breath) and tell us to clear them all out.
The Friday after Thanksgiving is reserved for our annual Paintball War (wood's ball). You'll notice that Malachi and Sam carry their Paintball Guns with them to hunt Packrats. We used to use hedge balls to knock the treed rats out of the tops of the hedge and cedar rows, but a couple years ago we realized that paintballs were far easier than throwing hundreds of hedge balls (if you are curious about hedge balls, watching the first video will provide you the answer as to why Packrats are called "Packrats").
HERE and HERE are some pics of my kids, and HERE are a few of our previous year's Packrat Hunts. Oh; and a quick shout out to my brother-in-law Doug, who is our official videographer.
