In the first one (you can read NPR's account above), Dr. Lee Silverman, a Philadelphia psychiatrist, illegally carrying his pistol in one of our nations numerous "GUN-FREE ZONES", managed to kill a rampaging psychopath. But not before said psychopath had done some serious damage. The thing is, the damage could have been worse --- way worse. Subtract the heroics of Dr. Silverman and his illegal handgun, and you had the potential to see yet another massacre on the six o'clock news.
Physicians of all sorts are being forced by the government to ask increasing numbers of questions of their patients that have little or nothing to do with healthcare. If you think that this is happening because they (the government) care so much about you, I have this bridge in Brooklyn that I would just loooooove to sell you. Hopefully more states will follow in Florida's footsteps on this matter.
