ROTTEN TO THE CORE
"Dr. Milgram and Dr. Stotsky were the only mathematics and English language arts specialists on the 30 person validation committee. Neither approved the standards." From the documentary, Building the Machine.
After watching "Building the Machine," it struck me that had the Common Core Guidelines been the rule of the land back when I was in high school (I graduated 30 years ago next month), it is likely that I would never have had the opportunity to go to college. No telling what I would have been doing these days (I contemplated going to flight school in Fort Rutgers, Alabama), but I certainly would not have had the good fortune to be part of a profession where I am intimately involved with all sorts of CRAZY MIRACLES ON A DAILY BASIS.
Be sure and pay attention to the interviews with the people who were on the committee formed to officially "validate" the Math & English section of these new guidelines (a senior professor of mathematics from Stanford University and the Senior Associate Commissioner of Education from Massachusetts), but refused to do so after seeing how detrimental they would be to students. In fact, one in six people who were chosen to be on the Validation Committee refused to validate the Common Core Guidelines. These dissenters were completely expunged from the record so that the government could claim the guidelines had 100% acceptance from the committee before being passed on to the various state's governors.
If you have children or grandchildren in public, private, or home schools, I would challenge you to take forty short minutes to watch this film by the HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association), and realize that Common Core is going to affect each and every one of you in some form or fashion. For those of you who still believe that GOVERNMENT RESEARCH & GUIDELINES are there for your best interest, you might be interested in this bridge I am selling. It's in Brooklyn, and I'll make you a great deal.
Be aware that there were five states who refused to sign on to Common Core, with numerous others contemplating dropping out as parents, teachers, citizens, and lawmakers begin realizing that they have been hoodwinked. Make sure to pass this information on to friends, family, and fellow educators.
