Within a few years he was squatting well over 400 lbs and pulling five hundred pound deadlifts. He could dunk a basketball hard --- two-handed, without a drop-step (straight vertical). He could put a softball into orbit. He was always lean and at one time weighed nearly 220 pounds. Being a hard-gainer, he never really worried too much about what he ate. And then life happened.
He finished college, started working, got married, and along the way had a few injuries. For several different reasons he backed way off the weight training. All the while, he was eating the way he had been taught in school ---- LOW FAT / NO FAT. Then one day he saw a picture of himself without a shirt. Gulp! This person realized that he was getting soft and packing extra pounds into all the wrong places.
You may have guessed it, but this was me. Fortunately, not too long after getting married in early 1996, I discovered how controlling my blood sugar would not only help me stay lean, but help keep me healthy and strong as well.
